Last season wasn’t Scott Sinclair’s best with the Celtic midfielder going through an extended barren run, with little competition for his place, he didn’t have to look over his shoulder.
Next season will be different with Celtic starlet Mikey Johnston looking set for a breakthrough season in Hoops.
He was blooded in Brendan’s first season and signed a contract moments after leaving the pitch.
Last season his progress was cut short by injury, now the exciting young Celt looks set to push for regular first-team honours on the left-hand side.
His goal against England showed his potential and Celtic fans are understandably happy seeing yet another Lennoxtown product come to the fore.
Celtic have plenty of midfielders and with only McGinn linked with coming in, those who are already on our books look set to fill the places throughout the year.
We have lost Paddy Roberts on the right but with the omnipresent James Forrest controlling that position, Mikey looks set to be the attacking player we will use to run at players from deep inside midfield.
Johnston’s progress is great news for the club, it is like signing a player for nothing, itself one of the joys of actually having a development squad.
Something not every team in Scotland can say.
