Killing the selling club 5 years at a time

Celtic has sold more than 35 million pounds of footballing talent to Southampton alone. We have also sold millions more to other clubs but the pain of the loss of Forster, Wanyama and Virgil is truly traumatic for every Tim. Our results in Europe since their departure have been poor, but it has been poor for more reasons than a lack of tactical nous of Ronny Deila.

Simply a team that doesn’t gel doesn’t win, a team that needs to bring in new players whilst trying to hold onto their current players is at a hiding to nothing. We heard Ronny talk about how Virgil will stay for our qualifiers as Wilson did a few years back. What we didn’t see was proaction in the transfer market to keep Virgil in Hoops in the first place.

Ronny Deila has started to set out his shop, the 5 year deal for Griffiths is a hands off to all clubs, if you want him you will pay whatever we ask, not the other way around. The 5 year deal for Nir Biton was no different, already he is being valued above 10 million pounds, should he have a year and a half to go few would think he would be worth 5 million pounds.

Ronny wants to build a squad, wants to prove himself in Europe and wants to gain some credit for his record. Lets be clear if it wasn’t for Muir and McClean’s incompetence and outright cheating nature we would have won the treble last year. That would have only been our 4th in close to 130 years.

Ronny acknowledged that we are (as we all know) a selling club. We unearth gems for the buyers down South. What Ronny is doing with his squad BEFORE the transfer window opens is lock his gems down and then as we would hope, pursue more on the transfer market this January. He has to qualify for the Champions League to gain any tenure among Celtic fans largely poisoned by the SMSM at our perpetual “crisis club”.

This January period will define Ronny Deilas time at Celtic, if he can clear out the dead wood, of which there is a substantial amount, bring in some new blood and re sign players like Tierney then we could see a fresh ethic coming out of Paradise. One with 6 months to prepare for the Champions League qualifiers and then the rising of the Newco.

Should Ronny buy wisely he will have the opportunity to bring the Ronny roar upon Europe’s top stage and to destroy it’s newest aspirants claims. If he fails this January, who will be charged with that job is anyone’s guess, but it wont be Ronny. The 5 year deals have set out the framework, now it is time to add substance to the structure.
