Celtic’s match vs Anderlecht has a major subplot to it, should we get past the Belgians we will find ourselves with Europa League Football after Christmas, a major achievement for a team which is still largely under construction.

If we do qualify for the Europa League then we will earn extra money for this and it should be put into the squad so as to give our Bhoys the best possible chance of going on a run in the competition.

Brendan has worked wonders with Ronny Deila’s underperforming squad with a few ket additions like Moussa Dembele and Oli Ntcham.

With the window a month off, it will be interesting to see where we invest, if it were up to me I would be looking at bringing 1 in, finishing a loan and sending one out on loan.

Centre Back

The injuries we have had to Jozo, Dedryck and Erik have proven very costly in Europe, particularly against PSG.

The need for an experienced CB is stark, the manager should be given funds to strengthen this area if we progress to the Europa League, if we do not then i assume the current players will suffice for the domestic season.

Ryan Christie back from loan

Christie should be brought back from his loan spell at Aberdeen and given first game duties with Celtic.

With Patrick Roberts injured again, he would be the natural man to take on board James Forrest’s minutes when he comes off around the 67th minute.

Johnny Hayes on loan back to Aberdeen

There may well be a stir with Aberdeen if we take Christie back from loan seeing he was part of the deal to bring Hayes to Paradise.

This is easily fixed, we send Hayes back there to get some game time and recapture his form so that he can push for a place next year.

It can be argued that we could add another Right back or Goalkeeper, but with young Ralston coming through the ranks and Dorus De Vries signing a contract extension, it appears these positions are covered.

The transfer window coming up is a time to get excited, we don’t need a lot of players, but we would do well to give Brendan some money to advance the squad.

At the same time, Christie is too good a player not to be at Parkhead and Hayes is at Paradise on the wage bill alone.

One major addition in defence and a shuffling of the deck would help our team go to the next level and funds for improvements are no less than what Brendan Rodgers deserves.
