With the International break upon us, it gives us some time to assess our current squad, we have been ravaged by injuries but still have a lot of players who are surplus to requirements and who are likely to never play for Celtic again.

Still on the books are Dorus de Vries, Cristian Gamboa, Marvin Compper, Nir Bitton, Johnny Hayes, Kundai Benyu and Eboue Kouassi who do not look to have Celtic careers ahead of them.

With Bitton and Kouassi, both are injured and won’t be able to moved on any time soon, Gamboa and de Vries are both entering the last 6 months of their contracts and will hopefully sign elsewhere for a nominal fee in January instead of running their contracts down.

Compper, Hayes and Benyu all need football, I doubt we will see any of them play any meaningful part for Celtic in the near future and we could do a lot worse than farming them out to SPFL teams, we would get to see them up close and they wouldn’t be able to play against us after all.

Coming into the club we look short a Centre Half or even two depending on what happens with Boyata, the fans have been screaming out for a Right Back to replace Lustig who for whatever reason is almost indispensable to the manager, he always gets picked.

An area of obvious concern is at striker where we have Edouard and Griffiths but little cover, this would be an obvious area to add a player for the run in and also to replace Moussa who was sold so late in the last window.

Domestically I don’t see anyone who is even bench quality for Celtic, the scouts will have to do their work on this one, the loan deal for Edouard was reported as a 7 million euro fee, it ended up costing us 9 million pounds so buying instead of loaning with an option may well be expedient.

Whoever the club goes for, we must do our business swiftly instead of low balling the clubs we deal with and inviting suitors with more money than we have, the McGinn fiasco should not be repeated.

One player we would all love to see back is Patrick Roberts, his loan spell in Spain hasn’t worked out and with clubs such as West Ham and Newcastle reportedly interested in signing the winger we should weigh in with a bid.

He would fit into the team with ease knowing the style of play and our opposition well.

That said, James Forrest is in the form of his life and Rogic seems to have a mortgage on attacking mid at the moment, still, it would be great to see him back in Hoops.

This January there will be no Football for the first 3 weeks, but when we return it will be hoped 3-4 new faces will be among the squad to show our intent and bring home 8 in a row.

Moreover, hopefully 3-4 faces are shown the door, there are too many players on the books but not on the paddock, it is time for new blood.
