Away record a thing of the past as Hoops eye progress

Celtic have often had our saving grace and Achilles heel an inch apart on the table, theses are our home and away records in European Football.

We have long taken pride in the reputation that a European night can produce and how daunting it can be for an opposing team.

That said we have often been dismembered by teams we should have beaten, the worst of those Artmedia Petržalka, where we lost 5 goals in the away leg only to beat them 4-0 at home.

We, of course, fell out of Europe to a team which hit its high point.

Last year we went to Hapoel needing to maintain a 3 goal cushion, we all remember the nervy ending to that match.

This season feels different, not just because the buffer is bigger, but because this team looks more assured than ever.

Even with injuries to Moussa Dembele, Erik Sviatchenko and Dedryck Boyata, we look to have this game well in hand.

Celtic doesn’t need to worry about its quotient or our all time record, Celtic must focus on the here and now, what can take us forward tonight and what skills can be learned for the future.

I am hoping we go out and play a great game of football tonight, I hope we go and chase a win others would say beyond us.

When Celtic start winning away regularly be it in qualifying or the Group stages the better, it will only teach this squad what will be required of them in the future.

We play for that future tonight, everyone is talking up European Football after Christmas, to do so we have to learn how to win after the departure lounge as well.
