Birger Meling’s current club Rosenborg drew against Dinamo Zagreb at home which wasn’t enough to see them through to the Champions League, they will instead fall into the Europa League, somewhere should Celtic hold their nerve come Thursday, we will join them within.

This opens up the question as to a possible transfer, we have obviously lost KT to Arsenal and with our clubs business plan we are unlikely to spend above the going rate for a replacement.

We did, however, spend 3 million pounds on a player in Boli who looks well short of our expectation, the same price has been quoted for Greg Taylor, maybe not a star of the European Leagues but certainly a safe option at Left Back domestically.

This then leaves us with Birger Meling, a player who will cost more than the 3 million quoted for Taylor, but will be a class above especially going forward, something that was a hallmark of Tierney’s time at Celtic.

With Rosenborg now out of the Champions League, they will be more approachable over Meling, had they qualified tonight they would have priced our board well and truly out of the equation.

With Meling a possibility I imagine we will see more smoke and mirrors from Celtic, denying links, keeping bets open and looking for the best deal, be it Taylor, Meling or today’s rumour from Salzburg.

But should we qualify for Europe this Thursday the board would be negligent not to announce a name on Friday, especially with Sevco on the menu this weekend.

Should we get past AIK we will earn 5 million pounds for qualification, something that should be handed over to Rosenborg for Birger Meling.
