Cutting the wage bill a grim reality for all, including Celtic

The COVID-19 crisis which has swept the planet isn’t going away, nor are job losses, quarantine, hoarding of goods, arguments over titles or financial problems for Football clubs unable to fathom the depths of this emergency, Celtic having the highest budget has worked in our favour for years, but going forward, that will not be the case for long.

Celtic have built up an impressive war chest over the years but it will soon whittle away, you can check the source @Barcabhoy1

Should this crisis continue beyond the summer we will be in a position whereby we may need to take loans, the lack of Football, season tickets and merchandise sales is going to hit us eventually.

The ongoing uncertainty about null and void seasons doesn’t help, should that deluded fantasy come to hand then we are going to have to refund money and won’t receive any more for the current season, something that would be catastrophic for all clubs, our own included.

So where can we make savings? The terrible news would be that we would be unlikely to sign Fraser Forster on a permanent basis, both his transfer and his wages would be prohibitive, the same can be said of Moi Elyanoussi whilst Bauer and Arzani look surplus to requirements.

Then there are the players on our books who look to have no first-team future:

In defence all players on full time contracts currently at the club look like they have futures in Hoops apart from Jozo, that said should he be cut we would need to bring in cover in that position, meaning he will likely stay.

Midfield, however, is a far more contentious position, Shved, Connel and Ewan Henderson are miles away from the first team and need to be farmed out on loan at the least.

Upfront both Bayo and Klimala don’t appear to be trusted by the manager, it is puzzling that we spent over 5 million on Soro and Klimala and have see a combined 5 and a half minutes of both.

Of our players currently on loan, Hazzard will likely come back to deputise for Bain seeing that Gordon wants first team football, Gutman, Perez, Hendry and Ralston are all miles behind the other squad players let alone the first team players and any resonable offer must be accepted.

Eboue Kouassi is the biggest waste of 3 million pounds plus wages since Derk Boerrighter ran around in circles doing nothing on the Celtic wing, with the arrival of Soro, he needs cut.

We have some very exciting youth prospects like Okoflex, Karamoko, Welsh, and Coffey, far better to bring these players through and trim the deadwood than maintain empty shirts in the dressing room.

As this lockout continues we are going to see clubs struggle financially, Celtic will be one of the last affected, however, come the opening of the window we simply must start moving players surplus to requirements.

Far better that than selling Edouard, Ajer or Calmac to balance the budget.
