Denayer would complete a fantastic window

This has been a good window for Celtic, a contract extension for Armstrong, fees for Izzy, Janko and GMS whilst bringing in Benyu, Hayes, Ntcham and now Paddy Roberts to strengthen the team.

A remarkable 27 players have left since May, with 8 of them on loan.

The squad is starting to take the shape that Rodgers wants for the long term, if Boyata and Sviatchenko were fit we wouldn’t be in any hurry to buy.

However, they are both crocked and with PSG, Bayern and Anderlecht looming, Rodgers needs a dedicated Centre Back to give Celtic a realistic chance of progressing beyond Christmas.

That is the teams stated goal, be it in the Champions League or the Europa League, to make sure we don’t finish last in our group and keep the massive European nights going at Celtic Park.

It is a shame that Rivaldo Coetzee failed his medical, it would have put this issue to bed.

The simplest solution would be to buy Jason Denayer, he thrived at Celtic on loan and the carrot of Champions League Football may well prove tempting.

Like Ntcham, Boyata and Roberts he is from Manchester City and would fit seamlessly into the Celtic defence beside Jozo Simunovic.

Transfermarkt rates him at 4 million Euro which is well within our means, with Virgil likely to complete a move in the next few days and hand us up to 10 million pounds more, this is a very reasonable amount of money for a sure thing.

The team doesn’t have time to adapt to someone new, they must hit the ground running and perform from the outset.

By bringing a familiar face, himself the architect of many clean sheets with Virgil and big Fraser back to Celtic we would have a well-balanced squad ready for Europe and a cut above the rest of Scotland.

With just a few days to go in the window, one more raid on Man City would secure the quality we need for the challenges ahead.
