European hopes on the line

Our upcoming match vs Anderlecht will show us if we have any chance of European Football after Christmas.

We need to take a point or better off the Belgians and beat them at home to have a realistic chance of making the knockout rounds of the Europa League.

The Champions League will likely be a field too far but you never know if PSG is sanctioned for flaunting FFP regulations.

But going through another round due to another team being banned doesn’t improve the team, the games against Legia and Maribor being evidence of that.

For all our domestic dominance we need to see some improvement on the continent, of progress made against the calibre of teams we would expect to play after Christmas in the Europa League.

If we can get past Anderlecht it will also give the board the opportunity to invest in the squad and give Brendan a chance at going as deep as possible.

If we are knocked out of Europe there is not much point as anyone can see we are miles ahead of the rest of Scotland.

Next May will be 15 years since our trip to Seville, we are long overdue a run in Europe and a shot at Silverware.

This team is the finest we have seen in years and with domestic pressures off, hopefully, the next few years will produce a team that can again have a long European run the fans are so desperate to see.

For those dreams to come true, we need to start taking points off teams away from home.

That starts with our trip to Anderlecht, after the 90 minutes we will see how realistic our dreams really are.
