Leigh Griffiths was substituted in Scotland’s 2-0 win against Malta yesterday as a precaution due to a tight calf muscle.

With Moussa Dembele still out injured this means that the threadbare Celtic attack will likely throw a cap to new Bhoy Odsonne Edouard.

The young French striker signed in the closing hours of the transfer window from PSG and may well find himself leading the line against his parent club next week.

Whilst most Celtic fans were eagerly awaiting a Centre Back to arrive before the window slammed shut, the arrival of the Frenchman may be a masterstroke by manager Brendan Rodgers.

The 19-year-old is light on professional experience having played for the PSG B team and also Toulouse on loan.

He has scored 4 goals in 29 appearances for those teams to go with his impressive hauls for the French youth teams.

In national colours, he has scored an impressive 24 goals in 34 appearances from Under 17’s through to Under 19’s.

It is this prolific form that put him on our radar and it will be hoped he will bring in a similar return in Hoops.

Hamilton awaits Celtic next and fans will be walking on egg shells over Griffiths injury and closely monitoring his progress.

He may well be rested or even unavailable, depending on the severity of the complaint.

With Celtic 2 points behind Aberdeen, the top spot is on offer if we can win, at least for a day until Hearts host the Dons in the pick of the weekend fixtures.

But in all fairness, Celtic have an eye on the blockbuster vs PSG next Tuesday in the Champions League.

Odsonne may well have come as a future prospect, but he can become an instant hero at Paradise should he perform over the coming week.

He may well have to, we are out of options up front and he has gone from 3rd in line to the top of the pecking order.

Time will tell if PSG has shot themselves in the foot by letting Celtic bring Edourad to Parkhead, he looks a far better option than playing a false 9.
