Massive window approaches, Celtic forced to spend

I have always been skeptical that Celtic will go into any given window with an open cheque book, the Auld Biskit tin that in essence saved our club looms over it like the sun and the moon at times.

But this window is completely different to any I can remember, for starters it comes on the back of a horrendous window, no point sugar coating that, secondly we have had our squad ravaged by injury and illness and thirdly we are in dire need of players in key positions.

Since Brendan arrived Right Back has been an area of concern, with Lustig keeping his place despite looking off the pace, now that he is injured the hunt for a first team replacement becomes critical.

Up front the loss of Moussa Dembele has not been compensated for and with Leigh Griffiths being unavailable for an indefinite time, we simply must strengthen our forward line.

The band aid approach of playing Christie as a false 9 is also out the window due to his injury last night, we have no option other than to spend, something on the back of a record profit which will not effect the core tennant of the Auld Biskit tin, maintaining a profit.

Boyata still hasn’t put pen to paper, with a treble on offer with European Football next year as well, you would think he would commit to at least a 1 year extension, regardless, we are short a Centre Back or maybe 2, if Benkovic was recalled in January we would be in crisis.

We have watched Fat Sally through to Slippy be given funds to buy multiple players with spending sprees that began with Wallace and Templeton and all the way through to Candeias and Goldson, the Newco keeps finding money for speculation.

Celtic in the meantime have gone about our business bringing in young players who show signs of excellence and develop and sell them at a heft premium, now however is the time to spend on proven quality.

Should Celtic manage to win the remaining games between now and the end of 2018 we will find ourselves staring at 8 in a row, the players we bring in this window will not only ensure that, they will pave the way for the 10.

Hopefully, Brendan is given the funds all Celtic fans want to see him given and allow him to build the team we all want to see him create. After his stellar work these last 2 and a half years, it is overdue and nothing less than he deserves.
