Alex McLeish’s ignorance has proven to be Australia’s fortune as Hibernian winger Martin Boyle has exploded onto the international scene with Australia.
After kicking the ball out of the goalkeeper grasp which lead to an equalising goal vs South Korea on the weekend, Boyle scored twice and picked up an assist for the third against Lebanon in Sydney.
He was quoted midweek as saying that he had mastered the Australian national anthem as he qualified for the Aussies as his father was born in Sydney.
He has only been an Australian citizen since March with opportunities short under Mcleish but available in Australia who have qualified for the last 4 World Cups.
McLeish took over a month beforehand and although alerted to the potential switch did nothing and let the Hibee go.
He now appears certain to be part of Graham Arnold’s team to play at the Asian Cup in the UAE come January.
Yet again the puzzling regime of Alex McLeish’s Scottish reign has scored another embarrassing own goal.
