New Gaffer needs to be appointed ASAP

The continuing conjecture around who will be the next Celtic manager will likely continue until after the title has been secured. Ronny Deila may well be given the courtesy. But there is no reason for Celtic to be so lenient, he is lucky to have his job as it is.

In the last week Celtic have been linked with players from Croatia and Chelsea without having a manager appointed to take control of these proposed signings. This is simply making the same mistake as giving Ronny his assitants without consultation. Who knows what sort of team Celtic would have been had Collins and Kennedy had no part in the back room operations?

Being linked with players is one thing buying players for your manager to use is ridiculous. The counter argument is that you do not want to miss out. Therefore, it’s time to appoint a manager and to allocate a budget. If it is Neil Lennon, Brendan Rogers, Michael O’Neill or David Moyes, it is time to appoint the Gaffer and get behind him. We will need a proactive transfer window and the more time the manager has the better.

Celtic need 4 points to win the League but in reality we need just 3. Our goal difference is 36 goals better so Aberdeen now need to win ever game including the game vs us and hope we lose every game. Aberdeen will drop points at some stage, we will win at some stage too, the title is all but won.

It is time to move forward from this security and appoint a new manager who will have time to watch the current squad in competitive games and make decisions on who goes and who stays. The need for a clean out is obvious, but if we recruit in June the manager doesn’t get to see the team until preseason.

Celtic should get a manager appointed whilst the season is still on and give the new manager free license to trim the deadwood as soon as the season is over and his appointment begins. Deila can leave with his head held high with 3 trophies in tow. Then, the new manager can start sorting out the mess that is left behind.
