No harm done as Dons drop the ball

Aberdeen have thrown away an opportunity to put real pressure on Celtic following our disappointing draw vs Hamilton on Friday. Much like Hibernian and their stumbles against Livingstone and Morton, Aberdeen don’t seem to have the inner mettle for a title fight.

This is just as well as we are playing average at best. Our defensive frailties will again come under the microscope on Wednesday vs Dundee. Aberdeen are away to Dundee United who themselves picked up all 3 points away in a win over our League Cup nemesis Ross County.

3 points for Aberdeen are far from secure against the Arabs who are themselves in desperate need of 3 points to stave off the drop. They have a game in hand and with Kilmarnock their nearest challenger to displace at the foot of the table having lost to Hearts, things could change quickly in the relegation places.

Dundee united are a better team and indeed Football Club than their position denotes. I would love to see them stay up and send the team with its tasty pies down to where their idols now aspire from. The team that bucked the trend and said ‘yes’ to the Newco deserves no less.

Celtic have dodged a bullet this weekend, we should be getting the jitters and have the SMSM breathing down our necks. Instead, we have maintained our lead and knocked another game off on the way to 5 in a row.

This March we have 4 very winnable games, Dundee, Morton in the Scottish Cup followed by Partick and Kilmarnock. It is imperative that Celtic take this blessing in their stride and focus on sewing up an unassailable lead before the split and a Cup Semi Final at Hampden. Anything less would be to a tempt fate none of us dare contemplate.
