Rogic to have an operation and will be out for 6 weeks

Bad news has come through today with Brendan Rodgers confirming that Tom Rogic will be out for 6 weeks with an operation needed on his knee.

He played on at the Asian Cup with a broken hand which won’t need an operation thankfully, but has picked up a knock on the knee which will see him missing til mid March.

As reported by the Scotsman, Brendan said:

“Tom is actually going to be out for six weeks which is a real blow for us.

“He came back from the Asia Cup and had an issue with his hand out there and got inured with his knee when he landed awkwardly.

“He went down to London with a member of our medical team yesterday to check that his hand didn’t need an operation and while he was there we thought we would have his knee looked at and it showed up that a lateral meniscus problem which is going to put him out for up to six weeks.

“Not what we expected but that’s the way football works. It is unfortunate. “He won’t need the operation on his hand but needs it on his knee.

“He is a good character. It is disappointing for us. We have missed him for the period of time he has been out, the last month or so, to have him out for another six weeks is a blow.”

With Celtic having Timo Weah and Oliver Burke on hand and with room still to be found in the team for Bayo and a returning Ntcham, this bad news could have been worse.

There are plenty of options, something that wasn’t true when we went to Ibrox on the 29th of December.

Hopefully Big Tam is back for our next game vs the Newco in March but it seems unlikely, nonetheless he will have a part to play at the end of the season as Celtic chase 8 consecutive titles.
