Time for a clean out.

The cry for the last few months let alone weeks has been treble or nothing. We have no treble yet again so let’s get back to plan A, time for a clean out. Efe Ambrose was unlucky today, instead of making a ridiculous error he was merely asleep at the key moment and then unlucky that a wee touch resulted in a penalty. But let us be clear, he was last defender, the contact was made in the box and the red was deserved under the rules.

That he was alone in being sent off in a game where there were so many infringements beggars belief. Again, Efe deserved to be sent, but what of the lack of consideration for the wrestling with Gordon for their 2nd goal or the pull back on Johansen when he was 20 yards out and clear on goal? The facts are and will remain that we are never going to get the 50/50 calls.

If Ronny needs to be sacked or not is up to debate, hell we had our life line and Griffiths spurned it. The idea that it is Ronny’s fault is no different to our European travels, the team had its chances and didn’t take them. Griffiths missed a penalty and on top of that bar an assist he was largely missing throughout proceedings. The same can be said for our European charge, the opportunities were there, we just didn’t take them.

So who takes the blame? The team? The Gaffer? the Club? I blame all 3, the team with the exception of Tierney and Big Erik on debut were woeful. Midfield was pathetic, but in that lies the 2nd evil, why on earth was Biton playing so deep? He was basically a defender so why take off Callum for a defensive replacement? Why not shuffle the order and hold faith in the attack and not merely shut up shop and bolster the defence?

Celtic in my opinion are somewhere between cursed and flawed. We spurn chances to beat clubs we beat for fun in the League yet with all our resources there were few of us who thought even at 1-1 that we would have the temerity to show our alleged class. Celtic need to start looking at the current playing squad, Efe is simply a pipe bomb who is a matter of moments away from committing an error that can crucify our chances. He should have been moved on after the Juve game.

Our only attacking option is Griffiths and if he has a bad night we might as well put our mortgages on the opposition. When will we go out and buy some quality that can back him up and if he is not playing well step in and do his job for him. Let’s be clear, we have plenty of midfielders who can do a job, very few defenders but absolutely no attacking options. With the window slamming shut you wish this game had been played yesterday, we are stuck with a squad that shows little  sign of advancement.

The Club, like the team and the Gaffer must take some of the blame for this. Our transfer policy is ridiculous. We are linked with every player who is out of form or out of favour. That we are trolling Aston Villa’s reserves, checking on Ajax rejects at Nantes and have been alerted to ill discipline at Feynoord is frankly depressing. If we are to advance in Scotland let alone the Continent, we must invest. Boerrigter and Scepovic cost a combined 5.5 Million Pounds, why not merely buy a 5.5 million Pound striker like Finnabogson? When will we buy a proven scorer like we did with Sutton instead of gambling as we did with Henke and Lubo? We cant turn up a gem every year. The club must foot the money, the players in the team must rise or be moved on and the Gaffer, well if he is there tomorrow, he should put a ticket in the national lottery.
