Where’s my Right Back?

In the last 48 hours since playing with Kris Ajer at Right Back and Nir Bitton at Centre half in a competitive fixture, Celtic have been linked with Romain Sawyers, Britt Assombalonga, Jose Cifuentes and James Lea Siliki, some attacking mids and a striker.

Now if Lenny and Lawwell want these Bhoys in then spend the money and get them here, but before we look to bring 3-4 players in to replace Scott Allan and possibly Ntcham, how about we bring one in to replace Lustig and Gamboa.

We have been linked repeatedly with Tommy Smith and George Baldock however the saga continues, at 4 and 3 million respectively we simply have to meet a valuation and get one of them on the books.

Kris Ajer has spent the last 3 years re-engineering his game to stake a place at Centre Half, it is unfair to now expect him to do it again as a Right Back, I have no doubt he has the skill to do it but we shouldn’t look to weaken a strength to strengthen a weakness.

One thing I am extremely excited about is the arrival of Jullien and the hope that a solid (and healthy) Centre Half will bring the best out of Ajer, give him a rock to go on a run of clean sheets and take the next step in his development.

Giving Ajer a dedicated outlet on the right would only enhance his play and that of the team, the Bhoy will be worth a fortune one day if we give him the right setting to flourish.

A Right Back, be it Baldock or Smith is needed, we have seen the huge riches that the Champions League offers this season, if we are serious about qualifying and securing more domestic glory, this is the transfer that simply has to happen.
